Age of Mythology: Expanded is a successor to AoM Improvement Mod, differences? very few, except the name has been changed to leave the negativity and controversy of the old name.
Age of Mythology: Expanded, is a mod that expands the Core gameplay with new units, technologies, scenario editor units and objects, and a few small new features, along with many other things such as fixes, to name a few. Basically the Mod improves the game, gameplay wise! rather than changing the graphics, to be more modern, and to accommodate new play-styles and tactics.
- The University returns from Age of Kings, this is where you can research Advanced/Elite technologies, such as Ballistics, Heated Shot, Engineering Schools, Treadmil Crane, Chemistry etc
- (v1.2) Train Mercenaries at your Tavern (Built by Slaves) These units can be trained instantly, cost a lot of gold, and are improved versions of base units. They variate from Random map to Random map, train Armored Elephants on Acropolis, Gaelic Swordsmen on Alfheim etc
- You can now research new technologies to improve your Heroes, and Priests at the Shrine.
- On the line of new Hero content, you can now train elite Human Soldiers (with a bonus vs. Myth Units, the ability to boost nearby soldier's morale) at Fortresses, called "Generals"
- (Partially in v1.1/v1.2)You can now garrison your units at places other than the Town Center, Fortress and Towers! Hide them in your houses*, which allows them to shoot an arrow, garrison your Sphendonetes in your Military Academy so they can ambush the enemy when it's destroyed!
- RETURN OF THE TRASH: That's Right! the classic units from Age of Kings, and Age of Empires return, costing Food and Wood, or simply Food, they are cheap, useful for the little boomer and turtler in all of us. Ranging from the: Psiloi (Pedagogue in v1.12) and Chariot to the Atlantean Auxiliary[/c]
- New Specialty technolgies have been added Apothocaries to let your markets heal nearby units, Hiding Space allows your more of your units to be garrisoned in all garrisonable buildings, Asylum does the same with Relics and Units in Temples and Shrines, Volatile Shot allows your Siege Catapults to deal Explosive damage, Unique Techs such as Bloodbath allows the Norse Infantry to deal bonus damage, and the Egyptian Military Foresight allows Units to see even further past Tracking.
- All Human Units cost 1 pop, limited heroes cost 0 pop, unlimited cost 2 pop, all Myth Units are identical to Vanilla AoM Pop wise.
- Slaves, they can build unique buildings and gather resources faster than normal villagers but are limited to 10.
These are just some of the things planned, there are some other features, but are either too small or are secret ;)
